Engaged Sage

Tom Fritz and Lorna Johnson are sages. These two dedicated servants have each spent over 50 years ministering with Cru, shaping countless lives. It was an immense privilege to learn from them when I was a young staff member. Though both are grandparents, their passion for sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ burns as brightly as ever.

Earlier this month, their team of Cru leaders joined us with Batho Pele Resource Center to learn about reaching underserved communities. Tom, Lorna, and others assisted us in canvassing an apartment complex in Acres Homes that houses low- to middle-income individuals, families, and seniors.

Paired with my daughter, Noel, who was on winter break from Howard University, we went door-to-door ingroups of two. Our mission was to understand the specific needs and resources that would improve the lives of the residents. The invaluable data we gathered will be instrumental in developing impactful outreaches, in collaboration with the property management, to foster a sense of safety and well-being within the community.

During the debrief, it was truly heartwarming to witness Tom's enthusiasm as he engaged with me, discussing methods and contemplating how to apply the lessons learned from this experience. Lorna, ever supportive, warmly congratulated my wife and me on the launch of our new Christian non-profit, expressing genuine excitement as she witnessed God's hand at work in our lives.

Reflecting on this experience, I am deeply grateful for the wisdom and unwavering commitment of Tom and Lorna. Their dedication serves as inspiration, reminding me of the enduring power of faith and the profound impact we can have when we choose to serve Christ. Continue to pray as we help to transform this underserved community into a Great Commission community.
